The Question is: Commercial Diet or Raw Diet
Before you answer it though please read on first then decide.
To begin with ask yourself some basic questions - What did dogs eat before Commercial Food was invented?
In the days before Commercial Food was invented dogs ate scraps from the table or hunted their own food - the strongest survived and the weaker ones didn't - natures way of culling?
If you check back in history the dogs were hardier than a lot of today's and they certainly lived longer. There were no supliments back then - they got their own natural supliments by eating bones, vegatation etc and as they only used what the body needed they expeled the rest. hense they never had an overdose of any natural substance that they chose to eat, ie calcium etc.
Why was Commercial Food invented?
Commercial Food was invented soley for convienience and as far as i can research 'Spratts' was the first maker in the 50/60's. there would not of been any scientific knowledge behind this as they only had a vague idea of what a dog needed for health based on the old way of feeding which was natural.
Why do most Vets frown on the idea of Raw Feeding?
Vets are biased toward Commercial Food as they only see Raw Fed dogs when the Owner has done it wrong or a dog has got into something he/she shouldn't have been able to. Also Vets are told that Commercial is the only Scientific Way to feed but in actual fact the Raw Feeders do a lot more research on the subject than the Manufacturer's of Commercial Food do.
What do Street Dogs eat?
Strays are Scavengers - they will eat whatever they can get and that includes rotten meat - but we don't see them on the roadside deseased and dying - why? because their immune systems have become strong enough to cope as they do in the wild also most strays are not vaccinated either. You will say because the Rescue Centres have them and strays don't exist anymore - Sory They Do Still Exist - Yes Rescue Centre's do have the majority of them but they don't have them all.
Do the companies who Manufactor Commercial Food have Qualifications in Dog Welfare?
As far as i can find out none of them have actually studied individual needs of different breeds etc - its an overal theory for all breeds, also i cannot find any manufactor that has any Qualifications to really know how to make a 100% safe balanced diet for our dogs.
Why do some dogs get skin complaints?
Some dogs have an intollerance to Wheat 'Biscuit' and as we know all commercial feed has wheat in as its a cheap ingredient and is used to bloat the dog into thinking it is full up, but a dog with a Wheat Intollerance that has not yet been diagnosed could cause not only problems with the skin it could also cause far more serious problems.
Why do dogs have worms?
As i mentioned earlier dogs use what they need of a feed and expel the rest, with a Raw Diet they use most of what they eat and don't expel as often as Commercial Feed so they do not have food rotting in their guts whereas in Commerciall Feed it sits in the Gut for a longer period and that breeds worms through the bacteria etc.
Why do dogs have Fleas?
It is a well known fact that Cats seem to attract flease very easily - where a Cat and Dog are Flea's are - they are Blood Suckers but strangly enough 100% Raw Fed Dogs don't seem to carry flea's, but then fleas's don't like Garlic.
Raw fed dogs are fed Garlic and don't have fleas, it's a natural ingredient of the Raw Diet and the Answer to any Flea Problem the alternative is to use a Chemical Solution and they come with their own problems for our dogs - as if they don't have it hard enough already!!
I have not gone into the what is involved in the Manufactoring of Commercial Food or a Raw Diet as i feel it is so widespread a subject most people already know and if not it is so easy to 'Google Search' but for anyone that wishes me to i would willinglly help them with the information they need to make an informed decision for themselves but just remember our dogs do not get the choice to make that same decision and they are the ones trying to please us all the time something sounds wrong with that doesn't it???
